FC Barcelona are in the market for a new centre-back for the summer transfer window and are looking at multiple options in the market.

One such player on the Catalans’ radars happens to be teenager Luka Vuskovic, who is currently on loan at Hamburger SV from Tottenham Hotspur.

Earlier this week, reports even suggested that Barça had made initial contacts with the 19-year-old Croatian starlet’s camp to explore the possibility of a move.

Pini Zahavi addresses Vuskovic situation

Vuskovic happens to be represented by Pini Zahavi, who has some degree of influence at Barcelona, given his close ties to former president and current presidential candidate Joan Laporta.

Speaking to the outlet 365Scores (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Zahavi refused to confirm or deny the speculation about Barça’s interest.

“I can’t comment on anything at this time. The player still belongs to Hamburg and is completely focused there,” he explained.

“I can give an update in exactly two months, that is, after his loan ends and he officially returns to Tottenham,” Zahavi added.

Barcelona are believed to have been monitoring Vuskovic for some time, and there were even suggestions that preliminary contacts had taken place to evaluate the possibility of a future transfer.

Meanwhile, Hamburg would prefer to extend Vuskovic’s loan for another season, given the defender’s importance to the team.

However, Tottenham’s stance appears different. The London club intend to bring the player back once the loan ends, as they consider him one of the most promising defensive talents within their long-term project.

Vuskovic’s contract with Tottenham runs until 2030, and there is no release clause or predefined purchase option included in the agreement.

Even so, the report states that a potential transfer could cost around €60 million, reflecting the high expectations surrounding the Croatian defender’s future.
