At an almost empty Stadio Olimpico, Lazio returned to winning ways by edging past Genoa in a thrilling Serie A clash.

After an uneventful first half, Pedro broke the deadlock from the spot, and Kenneth Taylor opened a two-goal cushion with his maiden goal for the Aquile. However, the Grifone returned the favor through Ruslan Milanovskyi’s penalty kick and Vitinha’s rebound. But in the end, the contest was decided by a third spot-kick, this time converted by Danilo Cataldi.

Here are our player ratings for Lazio, who earned a much-needed 3-2 victory over a resurgent Genoa side.

Lazio XI (4-3-3)

Ivan Provedel – 6

The Italian goalkeeper stood firm to deny Vitinha’s close-range header in the first half. He had a fingertip on Malinovski’s penalty, and then scrambled across to deal with the direct corner kick, but couldn’t prevent either goal.

Adam Marusic – 6

A mixed bag from the experienced Montenegrin, who allowed Vitinha to sneak behind him in the first half, but also showed his experience and resilience on a few occasions.

Mario Gila – 6

The Spaniard was unlucky to give away a spot-kick by blocking a shot with his hand. But otherwise, he had a decent outing at the back, while also playing an important role in the buildup.

Oliver Provstgaard – 6.5

The young Dane tried his best to make sure Romagnoli’s absence wasn’t felt. He made a last-ditch block to deny Lorenzo Colombo and was also dominant in the air.

Luca Pellegrini – 6

The full-back was arguably Lazio’s best player in the first half, proving to be a menace down the left flank. However, he started flagging as the match progressed, wasting a promising chance with a poor delivery, and then earning himself a one-match ban by collecting his fifth yellow card of the season.

Toma Basic – 6

The Croatian was happy to do the dirty work in the middle of the park. He also came close to scoring a magnificent goal in the second half, but his curling shot went just wide.

Danilo Cataldi – 6.5

Another solid display from the stand-in Lazio captain, who kept things neat and tidy in midfield, and more importantly, netted the last-gasp winner from the spot.

Kenneth Taylor – 6.5

The Dutchman is beginning to show his true worth for the team. Even prior to scoring the Aquile’s second with a clinical shot, he was looking lively and involved.

Gustav Isaksen – 7

While it wasn’t a spectacular outing by any means, the Danish winger was arguably Lazio’s most decisive player on Friday. Won the spot-kick that culminated in the opener, and set up Taylor on the second after chasing a long ball from Provedel.

Daniel Maldini – 6

The new Lazio signing displayed promising touches on his debut and did well to combine with teammates. However, he looked much more comfortable while roaming around the penalty box than spearheading the charge.

Pedro – 6.5

The former Barcelona star was one of the few players who tried to make something happen during the cagey first half. He once more showed his almost uncanny cool from the spot.

Substitutes

Petar Ratkov – 5.5

The Serbian striker saw very little of the ball, as Lazio were on the back foot at the time he was introduced. Although he couldn’t connect with the cross, his presence prompted the handball on Leo Ostigard, which resulted in the last spot-kick.

Matteo Cancellieri – 6

The winger squandered an inviting chance with a poor square ball, but immediately made amends by delivering an exquisite cross that led to Ostigard’s handball.

Nuno Tavares – 6

A noticeably improved cameo from the Portuguese on both ends of the pitch, but it remains to be seen if it will be his last Lazio appearance.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – N/A

Tijjani Noslin – N/A
