Manchester City reminded everyone how these occasions are navigated, controlling the narrative when it mattered most and leaving Arsenal with familiar questions. The Carabao Cup final at Wembley ended 2-0, yet the story sits in the details, small moments, big consequences, and a young player seizing his chance.
For 45 minutes, this felt cagey, almost tentative. Arsenal had control in patches, City probed without conviction, and Wembley waited. Then the game tilted.
On 60 minutes, a routine delivery from Rayan Cherki should have been dealt with. Instead, Kepa Arrizabalaga spilled it, and Nico O’Reilly reacted quickest, stooping to head home. Four minutes later, the same name, same outcome, different route. Matheus Nunes delivered, O’Reilly arrived at the far post, and the contest was effectively over at 2-0.
From there, Manchester City did what seasoned winners do. They managed the tempo, closed the spaces, and never allowed Arsenal back into the contest.

City’s performance after the break carried authority. The pressing became sharper, the passing more purposeful, and the movement far more difficult to track. Pep Guardiola’s side looked energised, playing with the urgency that had been missing in recent weeks.
Arsenal, by contrast, drifted. There was a lack of incision in the final third, and their midfield, while industrious, struggled to impose itself once City raised the intensity. The decision to stick with Kepa in goal proved costly, not just for the error but for the ripple effect it had on confidence.
James Trafford, at the other end, delivered when required. His early triple save kept City level and set the platform for what followed. Finals often hinge on these moments, and this one was no different.
For Manchester City, this felt like a reset. Not flawless, not vintage, but effective and, crucially, decisive. Guardiola’s fifth EFL Cup underlines a continued ability to deliver silverware even during transitional phases.
For Arsenal, the wait continues. Since the 2020 FA Cup, progress has been evident, yet moments like this highlight the final step still required. Control must become dominance, and dominance must translate into trophies.
