Uruguay were held to a goalless draw by South Korea in an enticing game that was filled with missed chances.
The defences of both teams stood tall, as both of them managed to take a point home before the other two teams in the group – Portugal and Ghana, play later. A failure to win could prove to be a disadvantage for both Uruguay and South Korea.
Key performers:
Diego Godin, 7: The ex-Inter and Atletico Madrid defender hit the post in the first half and won a lot of aerial duels, almost nullifying a sharp South Korean attack despite having limited support from midfield out of possession.
Jose Maria Gimenez, 7 – Similar to his former Atletico Madrid teammate, Jimenez also made a mark at the back in a game of stout defences. Jimenez made two interceptions and won five ground duels, while also winning two tackles.
Jim su-Kim, 7 – It was a solid defensive performance from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors’ left-back as he won six ground duels, winning four aerial duels. He made three tackles and kept Facundo Pellistri in check quite well.
