‘Playing in the World Cup for Algeria’ – Lyon winger Kaïl Boudache on career dreams | OneFootball

Between departures and arrivals, Olympique Lyonnais have experienced a turbulent summer transfer window, to say the least. And whilst it will obviously be some time yet before we can definitively judge the success of the sporting management, they nevertheless already have a few reasons to be pleased. One of them goes by the name of Kaïl Boudache (20).

Signed on a free transfer from OGC Nice, the young winger has settled into Paulo Fonseca’s squad with remarkable speed. A regular feature during pre-season, Boudache has carried that form into competitive matches, featuring in seven of the eight fixtures (including two starts) already played by the Lyon side. And although the Alès-born player is still searching for his first goal in the Red and Blue, his performances leave no doubt that it should not be long before he finds the net.

Such a rise to prominence could well, in the not-too-distant future, open the doors to the Algerian national team, which he dreams of representing at the highest level. “My dream is to play in major competitions like the Champions League, but also to play in the World Cup with Algeria,” the 20-year-old said in an interview with Le Progrès.

And even the presence of Zinédine Zidane on the French national team’s bench could not dampen that ambition. “It’ll still be Algeria,” he maintains. “I often go back home; my family is from Kabylie. And in the summers, we go back to reconnect with our roots and recharge our batteries there.”
