Liam Rosenior has told Chelsea fans to judge what they see from him, but urged the supporters to give him a chance first.

The 41-year-old was confirmed as Chelsea’s new head coach on Tuesday, and signed a six and a half year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior watched from the stands on Wednesday as Chelsea lost to Fulham at Craven Cottage, but will take charge of his first game against Charlton in the FA Cup third round on Saturday evening.

Liam Rosenior urges Chelsea fans to give him a chance

Rosenior faced the media for the first time on Friday, and is fully aware of the size of the task he’s got on his hands.

Chelsea currently sit eighth in the league, and are on a run of one win in their last nine league matches, and face a battle to qualify for the Champions League.

The Blues have reportedly told Rosenior Champions League qualification is critical, and he’s got to hit the ground running, with matches coming thick and fast for the remainder of the season.

Rosenior has insisted he won’t be making any excuses about starting mid-season, but urged fans to give him a chance.

“Judge what you see, don’t judge what you hear,” he said as quoted by Give Me Sport.

“Judge what you see on the pitch. Don’t judge my press conferences. I don’t win any games here in press conferences.

“Judge what you see on the pitch. Give myself, my staff and my players the chance to prove we are worthy. Judge us and be fair.

“If the performances aren’t good enough, I’ll be the first one to say so.

“I will hold my hands up. I’m the most accountable person for our performances. But please don’t start criticising, first – give us a chance.”

Chelsea face tough Charlton test

With the Blues currently struggling in the league, the cup could be a welcome distraction and exactly what they need to try and get back on track.

A trip to Championship side Charlton in the third round could be a potential banana skin, and the Blues will need to be on it from the first whistle.

Chelsea will likely rotate, but Rosenior should still go with a strong side, although Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi final is likely to come into his thinking.
