The Pilgrims have strengthened their ranks in the winter window by signing winger Ronan Curtis from Port Vale, and Tom Cleverley is now completing the final touches to his squad.

Argyle were beaten 2-1 by Stockport County on Saturday, leaving them 11 points adrift of the play-off places, albeit with a game in hand on sixth-place Huddersfield Town.

Cleverley will hope that his late transfer activity can help Plymouth earn a positive result against automatic promotion chasers Lincoln City this weekend.

Cleverley's men sit just 14th in League One, following last season's relegation from the Championship, while their defence has been a particular weakness, as they have conceded 42 goals in 29 third-tier fixtures.

According to Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke via X, Plymouth have agreed a deal to sign defender Wes Harding on loan from Millwall.

The 29-year-old has made just eight Championship appearances this season, with Lions boss Alex Neil favouring fellow centre-backs such as Jake Cooper and Caleb Taylor.

Harding initially joined Millwall on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, after leaving Rotherham United, and has gone on to make 45 appearances for the London club.

Plymouth successfully maintained clean sheets in their recent wins over Peterborough United and Luton Town, but their defensive issues have resurfaced, as Cleverley's men have conceded three goals in their last two games, drawing at Mansfield Town before being beaten by Stockport.

Harding previously excelled in League One, helping his former club Rotherham win automatic promotion to the Championship in 2022, proving that he has what it takes to improve Argyle's backline.

The Jamaica international went on to play a key role as the Millers avoided relegation from the second tier in a relatively successful 2022/23 season, before earning further Championship experience with Millwall.

Harding should be pleased by the prospect of earning more game time with Plymouth, while Argyle are set to enjoy the services of a talented individual who can rectify their defensive problems.
