Nicola Zalewski says that Inter Milan are “an important next step” for him, and that Ivan Perisic is an inspiration.

The Polish international gave his thoughts in an interview on the Nerazzurri’s official YouTube channel.

Wingback Zalewski joined Inter right at the tail end of the January transfer window.

The Nerazzurri signed the 23-year-old on loan from Roma, with a purchase option at the end of the loan deal.

Inter made Nicola Zalewski the replacement for Tajon Buchanan after the Canadian international left to join Villarreal on loan.

Zalewski made a very big impact in his first ever appearance for Inter. His debut came in the derby against AC Milan, and he came off the bench to assist a stoppage time equalizer.

Meanwhile, the Pole was not available for Inter’s last match. The Nerazzurri played against Fiorentina, but since it was a postponement of a fixture from the start of December where Zalewski had not been registered, he was not able to participate.

Nicola Zalewski had actually started his career as an attacking midfielder. However, he noted that “My position changed definitively under Jose Mourinho.”

“That was when I made my first team debut,” he continued.

“There were a lot of players unavailable in a home match against Verona,” recalled Zalewski. “The coach decided to throw me on, and then I grew a lot from there.”

And Zalewski called joining Inter “a great experience.”

“I’ve come here into a top side and culture. It’s a very important next step for my career, and I hope to experience it to its fullest.”

Of Polish national teammate Piotr Zielinski and former Giallorossi teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zalewski said that “It was nice to link up with them again.”

“Being with Piotr day to day here is different from being together in the national team,” he added. “I have a lot of respect for him.”

And Zalewski also noted that “As a wingback I’ve always had a lot of admiration for Ivan Perisic, who’s actually been here.”
