West Midlands Police have confirmed that five people have been arrested after the trouble involving Port Vale fans at Wolves on Friday night.

The League Two side made the short trip to Molineux for the EFL Cup tie on Friday night, with Wanderers recording a comfortable 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Adam Armstrong, Andre and Fer Lopez.

However, the second half was overshadowed by a violent incident in the away end, which appeared to show several Vale fans involved in a brawl in the lower tier of the Steve Bull Stand.

Port Vale have already confirmed that they are looking into what went on, and further developments have been shared by WMP to the BBC.

“Our investigation is continuing, and we would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened and could help with our inquiries. Scenes like this are completely unacceptable at football matches, and we will continue to work with clubs and the EFL to take strong action against this type of offending.”

As well as that, the update confirmed that five people have been arrested following the disorder.

That includes four people, aged between 17 and 45, being arrested on suspicion of affray, whilst a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of causing intentional harassment, alarm or distress after an inappropriate gesture was made towards a female spectator.

All five people have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Port Vale must take action against the supporters involved in incident at Wolves

It’s a shame for Port Vale that this has been the talking point since the game at Wolves, as there were some positives for Jon Brady’s side to take from the way they played.

Even though it looks like a routine win when you look at the scoreline, it didn’t tell the whole story, as Vale should’ve taken the lead, and they missed a few other glaring opportunities, along with a penalty in the second half.

Vale were backed by over 2,500 for the trip to Molineux, and, obviously, the vast majority behaved well and supported the team from the first whistle to the last.

But, what went on reflected very badly on the club, and it’s something that has made national headlines in the past few days.

With young kids also seen in the video, it’s unfortunate that they had to see such scenes, and Port Vale will be determined to show that this isn’t what the club is all about.

Of course, as WMP and the football club have pointed out, they are still investigating exactly what happened, so it would be unfair to criticise either at this moment.

So, it will take time, but the majority of Port Vale supporters will surely hope that if it’s seen that these were genuine fans who caused the trouble, they will be hit with banning orders, as it was not behaviour that the club wants to be associated with.
