Taylor reflects on brief, cherished Wolves stint and Cup upsets | OneFootball

The international break has Stuart Taylor looking back on a brief, cherished spell at Wolves under Paul Lambert nearly a decade ago.

As reported by ExpressAndStar.com, Taylor arrived as Lambert's assistant in his first senior coaching role in England after leading Aston Villa's Under-23s featuring Jack Grealish, Callum Robinson and Callum O'Hare.

The stay lasted a little over six months, as Fosun pivoted with heavy investment and appointed Nuno Espirito Santo. He left with Lambert and colleagues, disappointed but without recrimination, and welcomed Wolves' surge to promotion and Europe.

He recalls a supportive culture at Molineux and credits sporting director Kevin Thelwell. The team steadied to 15th, helped by five straight wins in March and April and a derby win over Villa.

The FA Cup run was the standout, with a 2-0 win at Stoke City, Helder Costa and Matt Doherty on target, and a debut for 16-year-old Morgan Gibbs-White. Wolves then won at Liverpool before Chelsea edged them after George Saville struck a post early on.

Taylor says plans were in place for summer recruits, some later signed by the club. He worked again with Lambert at Stoke and Ipswich, and had spells at Hamilton, Dundee and St Mirren.

Now 51, he is Kenny Miller's assistant at Maccabi Tel Aviv with Dean Kiely. Though out of Europe this season, they have won the State Cup and lead the league with five wins from five.

Ever curious, he draws on stints in Scotland and Qatar, is learning Spanish again and is driven by high standards and silverware.
