Santos have been reported to the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva over their late arrival for Saturday’s derby at Palmeiras, and could be fined up to R$ 100,000.

Palmeiras players were already on the pitch for the national anthem without the Santos team. According to Globo.com, São Paulo’s Military Police told the tribunal they were given the wrong hotel address, which delayed the escort to the stadium.

The club’s logistics lead had pointed officers to the Grand Mercure Ibirapuera, but the squad were at the Grand Mercure Vila Olímpia, roughly five kilometres away. Police said several attempts were needed to reach Santos staff before the mix-up was resolved.

Football director Alexandre Mattos and head coach Cuca blamed the police, arguing the convoy was taken through the whole city before reaching the ground. The force rejects that claim.

Santos say the hotel information was corrected in time. The club add that the team bus left at 16:45 and arrived at the arena at 17:20.
