Ponte Preta have been relegated from the 2026 Campeonato Paulista after a 2-0 defeat to Portuguesa at Canindé on Saturday, in the penultimate round of the group stage. They are the first team confirmed to drop.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the result leaves the Campinas club on one point from seven matches and with no mathematical route to safety. Even with a final-round win, they would reach at most four points, while Santos, the first club outside the drop zone, have six.
Ponte Preta’s campaign was beset by problems from the outset. A transfer ban meant they could not register new players in the early rounds, weakening the squad across the competition. Their only point came in a draw with Noroeste in Campinas.
With their relegation confirmed, only one drop spot remains. It is currently occupied by Velo Clube on four points, two fewer than Santos. Both sides still have the final round to play.
