Porto began their title defence with a 2-0 win against Alverca at Estádio do Dragão.

It didn't take long for Francesco Farioli's side to take the lead, André Silva heading Victor Froholdt's cross wide before being hit by Matheus Mendes. Referee Luís Godinho eventually pointed to the spot where Silva stroked the ball into the bottom corner.

A second penalty was awarded on the stroke of half-time following Pepê's low cross into the box, Nabil Touaizi pulling Silva's jersey which resulted in another penalty. Gabri Veiga assumed the responsibility and beat Mendes from the spot.

The second half was most notable for Diogo Costa coming to the fore, saving a close range effort from Ian Luccas and making a great save to deny Chiquinho late on.
