Porto made it five straight wins in the Primeira Liga following a regulation 1-0 victory against Nacional at Estádio do Dragão.

Borja Sainz scored from an offside position early on and Rodrigo Mora curled an effort over the bar, Zé Vítor fortunate to avoid a penalty after barging into Samu Aghehowa.

Francesco Farioli’s side finally got reward following another cross into the box, João Aurélio stupidly stepping on Borja Sainz off the ball which saw referee Luís Godinho summoned to the touchline monitor by VAR before pointing to the spot. Samu stepped up and sent Lucas França the wrong way in the 31st minute.

Nehuén Pérez replaced Alan Varela in the second half but lasted just four minutes, the Argentine picking up an injury and stretchered off the pitch.

Pepê missed a glorious 1 on 1 chance to seal the deal in the 73rd minute following a fast break. The Brazilian saw another chance saved by França late on, Gabri Veiga and Borja Sainz with the final two opportunities in a one sided contest.

Farioli made some changes with Pablo Rosario filling in at right back for the injured Albert Costa and Jakub Kiwior making his debut in central defence, the Pole lining up next to international teammate Jan Bednarek. Rodrigo Mora got another start before being replaced by Gabri Veiga.

The Dragons were far from their best but it was more than enough to beat a Nacional side that ended the contest with one shot on target and 0.08 expected goals. The victory preserves Porto’s perfect record in the Primeira Liga and ensures they stay top of the table.
