Last Sunday, FC Porto forward Moussa Marega was the victim of racist abuse during his sideâs 2-1 victory over VitĂłria de GuimarĂŁes.
Footage of Marega appearing to be restrained by his own team-mates as he tried to leave the field in protest was seen around the world, and the Frenchman later summed up his feelings on the matter via Instagram when he wrote: âI would just like to tell these idiots who come to the stadium to make racist chants, go fuck yourself.
âI hope I never see you on a football field again. You are a disgrace!â
âAnd I also thank the referees for not defending me and for giving me a yellow card because I defend my skin colour.â
Seven days later, Porto took on Portimonense in the Primeira Liga and in the 11th minute, the EstĂĄdio do DragĂŁo rose as one to show their support for Marega.
âWe are all Maregaâ read a banner in the crowd.
Indeed we are.
