Samu has suffered a right-knee sprain with anterior cruciate ligament damage during the clássico against Sporting, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

According to O Jogo, Porto shared a message of support on Wednesday to the 21-year-old forward on their social channels.

The Spanish striker was injured around the 45-minute mark, returned to complete seven minutes of stoppage time, but did not reappear after the interval, triggering concern at the Dragão.

He remains under observation by Porto’s medical staff and will undergo further tests in the coming days, with specialist opinions to follow. Surgery has not been ruled out. For example, De Jong initially had conservative treatment before deciding on surgery two weeks later.

Porto have informed the Royal Spanish Football Federation, as the injury could prevent Samu being called up for the World Cup.

His absence leaves Francesco Farioli with only two centre-forward options, Deniz Gul and Terem Moffi. The board led by André Villas-Boas secured Moffi’s loan late in the window.

The Turkish international has rhythm and is the leading candidate to face Nacional on Sunday, having come on after the break in the clássico. Moffi is still working towards peak fitness after being out since the end of November. The winter addition has worked hard, but he is not yet at the physical level Farioli requires and the Italian will not force a premature start.
