Portuguese champions Porto have signed Chris Smalling, adding the veteran centre-back to their squad.
The club said in a statement that he has agreed a deal to the end of the season with an option for a further year, and that he joins without a fee.
The 36-year-old arrives after two years with Al-Fayha in the Saudi Pro League, marking a return to European football. He adds experience to Francesco Farioli's squad.
Smalling won two Premier League titles during a decade at Manchester United, then helped Roma lift the inaugural Europa Conference League. His time in Serie A underlined his adaptability and pedigree in knockout football.
Porto have made a perfect start domestically, sitting top of the Primeira Liga with 21 points from seven matches, five ahead of Benfica. However, they opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 home defeat to Manchester City.
The former England international has 31 caps and featured at the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016. Before moving to Saudi Arabia he played for Maidstone United, Millwall and Fulham, where he earned his switch to Manchester United.
