Portsmouth sink Ipswich Town with first half double

Portsmouth beat Ipswich Town 2-0 at Fratton Park, climbing from 21st to 19th in the Championship.

In the 42nd minute, Conor Shaughnessy headed in from close range after Adrian Segečić's cross following a corner.

After three substitutions just before the hour mark, the Tractor Boys pushed higher through Anis Mehmeti and Jaden Philogene, but Portsmouth's centre-backs cleared repeatedly.

Nicolas Schmid then kept the hosts in control, pushing away Marcelino Núñez's drive (67.) and saving again in the third minute of second half stoppage time.

Portsmouth registered four shots on target from 11 attempts and won 83.3% of their tackles. The Tractor Boys saw 59.4% of the ball and forced seven corners.
