Portuguese international André da Silva scored the winning goal for Elche in their 1-0 victory over Real Oviedo on Sunday, making it goals in consecutive games for the revived striker.

Former Porto man Da Silva struck in his side’s 2-2 draw at Sevilla last week on his full debut for Oviedo, and followed that up with a poacher’s goal after just 8 minutes this week to earn three points and put newly-promoted Elche in 5th place.

The upturn in fortunes is a much-needed positive shift for Da Silva, whose career has slowed in recent years amid injury issues and a flurry of short-lived loan spells. Having signed a one-year deal to return to Spain in August, finding the net in back-to-back games means the 29-year-old is catching the eye in La Liga on current form.

“I've found my smile and can enjoy everyday life,” Da Silva told reporters. “It was difficult, but I'm feeling very good and settling in. I identify strongly with the club and think we have a good dynamic. I like the way we work, the people, everything…

"We try to stay focused on the moment and what we can control. We certainly have things to improve, but football here is beautiful; when things go well, it's even better.

"I'm having a great time. Everyone welcomed me very well. We're enjoying every day. We have many virtues and many things to work on.
