Looking at this Newcastle team v Spurs.
Our next match at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United looking to follow up these last two wins, in the Champions League against Benfica and Premier League against Fulham.
So can Eddie Howe’s side make it through to the League Cup quarter-finals for a fourth season in a row?
If so, it would mean five wins in their last six games for Newcastle United, in all competitions.
As a reminder, this was the Newcastle team v Fulham on Saturday:
Pope, Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Burn, Bruno, Joelinton, Miley, Gordon, Woltemade, Jacob Murphy
Eddie Howe gave an update on Tuesday, regarding injury and availability for this Spurs match.
He was positive about Yoane Wissa, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, all still working their way back from injury. Hall seemingly the closest to making a playing return, though he won’t be competing for a start in this Spurs match.
Eddie Howe also confirmed that Sven Botman hadn’t suffered a concussion on Saturday but had suffered a nasty cut that needed stapling and the defender had missed training on Monday. The Head Coach saying he would see how Botman was on Tuesday before making any decision on his availability.
So where does that leave us?
This is my predicted Newcastle team v Spurs:
Ramsdale, Murphy, Schar, Thiaw, Burn, Ramsey, Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton, Gordon, Elanga
If proved correct, this would mean five changes.
IN:
Ramsdale, Schar, Ramsey, Tonali, Elanga
Pope, Trippier, Botman, Miley, Woltemade
A number of factors make me think this could be the Newcastle team v Spurs.
I think Botman is due a rest possibly and with his injury that just makes it even less likely he will start.
Trippier and Woltemade are another two who I think could do with a shift off. Same with Miley who hadn’t trained for a couple of weeks recently, then starting the last two games.
Whilst Ramsdale played in the last round and I reckon Eddie Howe will repeat that tonight.
It would have been a great time for Hall and Livremento to be available again but in their absence I fancy a change of formation to allow the three centre-backs and Murphy and Ramsey as wing-backs.
Tonali should be ok to return and Eddie Howe looking to take this game away from Spurs, playing his first choice midfield trio.
Whilst both Gordon and Elanga have played these kind of free roles in attack in the past, so with no Wissa and Woltemade needing a shift off, in my opinion, then this is a possible alternative plan. Eddie Howe has also stated that Osula is carrying an ankle problem, so I see him as somebody to come off the bench again, not start.
