Which Premier League clubs have been the best when measured across the past three years?

Not just a one-off season.

Measuring the Premier League clubs across three full seasons.

This of course coincides with Eddie Howe taking over at Newcastle United, he now has three full seasons to be judged on.

How does he and NUFC compare against the other Premier League clubs?

As always, a lot of people out there want to try and dilute and/or dismiss Eddie Howe’s achievements.

They also want to believe that this is just a fleeting thing at St James’ Park, that Newcastle United shouldn’t be seen as long-term competitors at the top end.

Interesting then to look at how many points these Premier League clubs have accumulated across the course of these last three seasons (2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25):

248 Manchester City

232 Liverpool

197 Newcastle United

195 Aston Villa

174 Manchester United

173 Chelsea

168 Brighton

164 Tottenham

Yes, Newcastle United over the course of three seasons are shown to be one of the Premier League top four.

The three NUFC seasons of points showing 71 (2022/23), 60 (2023/24) and 66 (2024/25).

Quite remarkable, especially considering the worst ever season for injuries in Newcastle United history across the 2023/24 PL season and the Sandro Tonali suspension that campaign as well. Whilst it is also two years since Eddie Howe was able to bring in a new first team contender due to PSR and had to sell two of the club’s best young talents last summer.

Not forgetting as well, most of the Premier League clubs you see above, having much larger wage bills than Newcastle and also have spent more on their squads.

When you add in the second half of the 2021/22 season to the points totals above, the final 19 matches for each of the Premier League clubs, the points totals become:

294 Manchester City

283 Liverpool

278 Arsenal

235 Newcastle United

218 Aston Villa

201 Manchester United

199 Tottenham

196 Chelsea

192 Brighton

As you can see, taking it back over three and a half seasons, Eddie Howe and Newcastle United get even further ahead of the rest, with still only Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal above.

What Eddie Howe has done at Newcastle United is a miracle, all of these Premier League points AND two Wembley finals, including a trophy.
