Etta Eyong’s emergence at Levante has become one of the most intriguing stories of the season. The Cameroon international has struck six goals with three assists, and talkSPORT reported that Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have all scouted him. As one source put it, “Only Kylian Mbappe has more goal contributions in LaLiga,” a line that has accelerated attention across Europe.
Eyong’s rise has been swift, almost disorientingly so. He arrived at Levante for €3m from Villarreal in September, and talkSPORT confirmed that “a January exit is not possible” due to registration rules. That has not stopped suitors from circling, and Barcelona now view him as a potential long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.
Arsenal’s search for a young No.9 is already underway with Gabriel Jesus’ future unclear. Mikel Merino has been repurposed as a forward, yet insiders suggest that the club want a specialist finisher to complement their wide threats. One executive described Eyong as “a player with a profile that fits our recruitment direction”.
Manchester United are assessing their long-term attacking options with Joshua Zirkzee’s 2026 status uncertain. Chido Obi remains central to the club’s pathway plans, so Eyong’s arrival would only be considered if he complemented rather than blocked that development.

Chelsea have taken their usual monitoring role. Liam Delap and Joao Pedro are performing well, Marc Guiu is developing and Emanuel Emegha is already secured for next season. Even so, the club remain alert to what one staff member called “Eyong’s blistering start”.
CSKA Moscow have already tested the water with a €30m bid that Levante rejected. Chief executive José Danvila told Radio Marca, “We haven’t had any calls from the Premier League. We received one firm offer for the player, but it has already been rejected.” His insistence that Eyong “is not going to be sold this winter” reflects both the club’s resolve and the striker’s rising market power.
Eyong is valued above €30m with a clause that could reach €40m, and his output hints at an even higher ceiling. If his trajectory continues, 2026 could see one of the most competitive striker races in recent Premier League history.
From a Manchester United perspective, this report is both enticing and slightly frustrating. United have been linked with dozens of emerging forwards across Europe, yet Eyong feels different. His numbers are impressive, his rise has been sharp and the comparison to Erling Haaland in style will not have gone unnoticed at Old Trafford. There is also something appealing about chasing a player before his value explodes, especially with United’s transfer strategy now far more controlled than in previous cycles.
The club’s situation up front is more complex than it appears. Joshua Zirkzee doesn’t seem to have a long term future, and Sesko can’t be the only striking option. His movement inside the box is sharp, he attacks crosses aggressively and he has the confidence of someone who understands he can trouble any defender. It is easy to imagine him dragging Premier League centre backs into awkward spaces.
Supporters will also appreciate that United are prioritising Chido Obi’s development. The academy pathway has opened again and bringing in someone like Eyong does not necessarily block progression. Instead, it adds competition and gives the squad depth in the positions where elite clubs excel.
The issue is timing. United do not seem inclined to move in January and by summer the market could be chaotic. Arsenal look in need for another No.9 behind Gyokeres, Chelsea never stay quiet for long and Barcelona’s involvement adds pressure. If United want to be serious about returning to the top of English football, these are the moments they must act decisively.
Eyong may not be the finished product, but he looks like the type of forward who becomes a star in England. For United fans, this feels like a chase worth committing to before the opportunity slips away.
