The Premier League’s Key Match Incidents panel has assessed Arsenal’s match against Brighton and Hove Albion, reviewing a couple of key decisions.

The Premier League have released the results of their latest Key Match Incidents panel for the fifth round of fixtures, which includes Arsenal’s defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The panel reviewed a couple of key decisions in the match, but they ultimately agreed that the correct calls were made in both cases.

The first was an alleged foul by Riccardo Calafiori on Ferdi Kadioglu in the 53rd minute, potentially leading to a penalty. The referee didn’t award a spot-kick, and the panel backed that call unanimously.

The statement explained: “The referee’s call of no penalty was supported, with the contact by Calafiori below the threshold for a penalty.”

The second incident was a potential offside in Brighton’s third goal of the game. Brighton’s Pascal Struijk was in an offside position when Chema Andres headed home, but the panel agreed with the on-field decision that the player wasn’t interfering.

The panel explained: “Struijk was behind the defender and behind the goalkeeper, therefore not impacting either opponent.”

The Declan Rice trip on Malick Yalcouye, which caused such a stir on social media, wasn’t deemed worthy of a review by the panel. Rice was booked for the incident, and despite rival fans crying for a red card, Dermot Gallagher told Sky Sports News that a yellow card was the correct call.

“[For a red card] it’s got to be deemed violent conduct, it’s got to be deemed brutal or malicious. Is that brutal or malicious? I think not,” Gallagher said.

“For me, that’s not an act of violence. It’s almost like he puts his foot into him, he doesn’t follow through. Very unwise thing to do, but I think the referee got it right.”
