Matthias Jaissle has revealed that Manchester United have ‘no chance’ of signing Lewis Hall this summer.

The Newcastle United manager briefly addressed the speculation following his side’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool yesterday evening.

What did Jaissle say about Hall?

When speaking with the press post-match, former Red Peter Schmeichel told Jaissle (courtesy of ViaPlay): “We (United) are looking at signing your left-back (Hall).”

The Magpies boss chuckled while responding: “No chance. No chance.”

In truth, it’s what INEOS have known since the beginning of the window – that Hall is considered entirely off-limits.

Even prior to Newcastle sanctioning the exits of key men Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, they had no desire to part ways with the young full-back, but even more so in the aftermath of such high-profile departures.

Reports have suggested that Hall, who gave away a penalty for Liverpool’s equaliser at St.James’ Park, is keen on a switch to Old Trafford.

However, considering he and his family are lifelong Newcastle supporters, it’s highly unlikely he would ever go as far as forcing a move in the same way Alexander Isak did last summer.

Yet, United would greatly benefit from a new addition on the left-hand side of defence, so must turn their attention elsewhere before the deadline.

In recent days, links to Barcelona youngster Alejandro Balde, 22, have ramped up, particularly since he was left out of their season opener against Elche last night amid growing uncertainty over his future.

The La Masia graduate is said to want to stay at Camp Nou, although he will have little say in the matter if Barcelona decide to cash in while there’s interest in him.

Balde now ranks behind both Gerard Martin and the experienced Joao Cancelo in Hansi Flick’s pecking order, whereas at United, he would be directly vying with Luke Shaw to be Michael Carrick’s first choice.
