Real Madrid’s transfer plans appear to have taken a decisive turn despite Rodri’s outstanding performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to Jose Felix Diaz, as relayed by Defensa Central, the Spanish midfielder’s displays on the international stage have done little to alter the club’s long-term strategy.

For months, Rodri has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, with reports suggesting the Manchester City midfielder would welcome the opportunity to return to the Spanish capital.

However, despite renewed speculation following his impressive World Cup campaign, those within Santiago Bernabeu remain unconvinced that a deal is either necessary or likely.

Real Madrid’s position has not changed

Speaking about the situation, Jose Felix Diaz explained that the club see little reason to enter the market for another midfielder.

“Rodri’s great World Cup hasn’t changed Real Madrid’s stance because it seems unlikely that anyone will leave the midfield,” the journalist explained.

Simply put, unless there is an unexpected departure before the transfer window closes, Real Madrid are unlikely to sign a midfielder this summer, regardless of Rodri’s availability.

Even if circumstances were to change, the report suggests there is no certainty that the Manchester City star would become the club’s preferred target.

Tchouameni’s renewal has changed everything

One of the biggest reasons behind the club’s position is Aurelien Tchouameni’s new contract.

By extending the French midfielder’s deal until 2031, Real Madrid have effectively confirmed who they see as the long-term anchor in midfield.

Rather than searching for another holding midfielder, the club now appear focused on building around Tchouameni.

If another midfielder is eventually added in future transfer windows, the profile is expected to be different – someone capable of complementing his defensive qualities with greater creativity and attacking influence.

This explains why Real Madrid have decided to back off from Rodri’s chase.
