Crystal Palace are interested in signing Joe Willock from Newcastle United according to a new media exclusive.

The Telegraph report that their information is that United’s Premier League rival are considering putting in an offer in January to tempt Newcastle to sell.

Joe Willock has a Newcastle United contract that currently runs until 30 June 2027 and has struggled to get first team starts.

Only one each in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup this season, until starting last night against Marseille.

Joe Willock was one of United’s best players on the night and reminded us at times of just what an asset he can be, when on form.

However, he has only very fleetingly shown the kind of form that saw him be a key performer and automatic first choice in the 2022/23 season, when Newcastle United finished fourth and got to Wembley.

Injuries and fitness issues have plagued him, then struggling to get any kind of a run of games these past two or more years has seen it become a bit of a vicious circle. As in the past Joe Willock seems to need a run of games before finding his rhythm and form.

The arrival of Jacob Ramsey has seemingly made Joe Willock now Newcastle’s sixth choice midfielder and The Telegraph say that this has now encouraged Crystal Palace to think they can potentially buy him in January.

At the time (summer 2021) it was reported that Newcastle United had paid £25m for the then Arsenal midfielder but this report claims it was £21m. Either way, if Newcastle get an offer in that kind of ballpark, then quite possible United could be tempted to sell.

Earlier this month it was reported across the media that Newcastle United are interested in trying to sign the exciting midfielder Kees Smit in January. This move intended to see them get in ahead of a lot of other top clubs trying to sign AZ Alkmaar’s talented 19 year old.

The Telegraph suggesting that if Newcastle United can land Kees Smit then that could pave the way for Crystal Palace to land Joe Willock. As otherwise Eddie Howe highly unlikely to see himself having one less midfield option at the end of the January window, especially in such a busy season (which hopefully is still very busy by that point in a number of competitions!).
