The Premier League will launch its first live streaming platform, Premier League Plus, in Singapore next season. According to L'Équipe, chief executive Richard Masters announced the plan on Thursday, and international expansion could follow if it succeeds.

It is the league's first move to distribute its own content, having previously sold rights to third-party broadcasters such as Sky Sports in England and NBC in the United States.

The launch will coincide with the opening of a new production hub, Premier League Studios, in London.

For the first time the league will handle customer relationships, promotion, pricing, retention and distribution, with the aim of building a profitable business.

Any broader rollout would depend on the Singapore outcome, and the league prefers not to make predictions at this stage.
