The Premier League countdown continues, with Sunderland and Coventry City adding new defenders as summer business gathers pace.

Arsenal have brought in Illan Meslier on a free after his Leeds exit and made Piero Hincapie’s switch permanent for £25m, while Leandro Trossard joined Besiktas for £15.3m alongside departures for Jakub Kiwior and Karl Hein.

Aston Villa signed Johan Manzambi from Freiburg for £50m and agreed a pre-contract for Modou Keba Cisse, Youri Tielemans left for Manchester United for £35m, and a £117m deal is in place for Morgan Rogers to join Chelsea.

Bournemouth added Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche for £21m, Marcos Senesi moved to Tottenham at contract end, and Andoni Iraola has departed to become Liverpool’s head coach.

Chelsea signed Marco Palestra from Atalanta for £43m and Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon for £40m, Xabi Alonso was appointed head coach, while outs included Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid for £51.8m and Tyrique George to Everton for £18m.
