Whether you're into expected goals (xG) or not, it's here to stay. So let's at least use it. The data displays which players - and clubs - are over or underperforming when it comes to converting chances.
Here are the fivePremier League players with the greatest xG over-performance so far this season.
Aston Villa have made somewhat of a mockery of xG data this season. Just three teams have over-performed their expected goals to a greater extent, while seven players in Unai Emery's squad have exceeded expectations when it comes to chance conversion.
Some excellent long-range shooting has been a big factor in that, with no side having scored more goals from outside the box.
Morgan Rogers (+2.91) leads from the front, while teammates Emi Buendia (+2.12) and Matty Cash (+2) have also over-performed significantly.
Arne Slot reinvented Ryan Gravenberch as a number six last season with much success. The Dutchman's deployment in a deeper role paid dividends, as the Reds romped to the title.
After failing to score a league goal last season, Gravenberch has added another string to his bow this time around. He's scored four goals in thePremier League, despite an xG figure of just 1.01.
Bruno Guimaraes is the joint-highest scoring central midfielder in thePremier League this season.
He's scored eight goals in thePremier League, level with Enzo Fernandez of Chelsea.
Bournemouth have unearthed another gem in Eli Kroupi Junior. The leading scorer in Ligue 2 last season, Kroup Junior linked up with the Cherries in the summer and has shone.
At just 19, the forward has scored eight goals in just 782 minutes ofPremier League football, at an average of a goal every 97.75 minutes.
His long-range crackers have contributed to a healthy xG over-performance.
There aren't many players with a better goal catalogue than Harry Wilson.
The Welshman's wand of a left foot has delivered some beauties in recent seasons and there's an argument that Wilson is playing the best football of his career in 2025-26.
