Vasco have honoured Pretinha, the club’s greatest women’s football icon, by placing her image and signature on all captains’ armbands across youth and senior teams, according to Globo.com.
At the launch, Pretinha presented special kits to the captains of the under-17 sides, Camilly and Polyana, under-20, Gabi and Giovanna, and the first team, Juh Morais and Vilmara. Each kit included the new armband, a commemorative pennant and a booklet on the club’s leading women’s captains.
She said she was emotional, proud and honoured to be involved, and thanked Vasco and those who supported her journey.
Pretinha is Vasco’s all-time top scorer and a central figure in the club’s women’s football history. She played for seven years from 1993 to 2000, won five state titles and three national crowns, the Taça Brasil in 1993, 1994 and 1998, and scored 62 goals.
She stressed that none of it was achieved alone, expressing gratitude to former team-mates and staff. Having her photo and name on the armband is a significant honour, and she hopes the current players draw inspiration to write their own stories at Vasco.
The new armbands are scheduled to debut in July across youth and senior fixtures. The women’s team currently top Brasileiro A2 with 12 matches played, 11 wins, one draw, 43 scored and eight conceded.
