Rangers boss Danny Rohl was only prevented from delivering the Scottish Premiership title this season due to injuries at crucial times, the German media has claimed.
Rohl’s work in guiding Rangers to a third-place finish has attracted interest from Red Bull Salzburg, with the German coach no stranger to the Red Bull network after previously serving on the coaching staff at RB Leipzig.
The 37-year-old is understood to have a strong admirer in former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who now oversees football operations as Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull group.
Rohl arrived at Ibrox in October after Rangers had been left reeling by a poor start to the campaign under Russell Martin, with the club sitting eleven points adrift at the summit following a run of underwhelming performances.
The former Sheffield Wednesday manager quickly turned things around, losing just once in 25 regular-season league matches as Rangers emerged as genuine title contenders alongside Hearts and Celtic.

However, their Scottish Premiership challenge unravelled after the split.
His side lost an astonishing four of their five post-split fixtures, collecting just a solitary victory as their title hopes faded, allowing Celtic to ultimately get their hands on the title.
Now, amid the interest from Red Bull Salzburg, German daily Bild has claimed that Rohl was on course to lead Rangers to the title.
The publication suggested that injuries to several key players proved costly in the closing stages of the season and played a significant role in the Gers falling short in the title race.

Bild wrote: “He took over the Scottish club in October 2025 and stabilised the struggling side.
“However, several injuries in the final stretch prevented them from winning the league title.”
That view is likely to be highly questioned by Rangers fans, with the Gers simply falling apart post the split.
For all the praise Rohl received for Rangers’ resurgence, the German also faced scrutiny from some quarters.
Former striker Tam McManus criticised what he perceived as a negative style of play, while another journalist argued that Rangers lacked a discernible identity on the pitch under Rohl’s management.
Back in May, the German tactician was linked with a move to Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, though any prospect of a switch ultimately failed to materialise.
The Rangers boss subsequently reaffirmed his commitment to the Scottish heavyweights, outlining his ambition to build a team capable of asserting their dominance for years to come.
However, with Red Bull Salzburg now stepping up their pursuit and talks set to begin, Rangers may soon find themselves fighting to keep hold of their manager who remains under contract at Ibrox until 2028.
