Quite a bit has changed since the last time the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders FC played one another. It was the end of November last year when these two took the field.
The winner went on to the 2024 MLS Cup Finals, and the loser went home. As we know it, the LA Galaxy not only appeared in their tenth championship match, but the Seattle Sounders' season ended in a 1-0 battle during the MLS Western Conference Finals.
As the 2025 MLS regular season is more than half way through, only one of these two soccer clubs look like they will make the playoff picture.
The LA Galaxy opened the season with a 16-game winless streak and find themselves at the bottom of the MLS Western Conference standings. Seattle holds a one point lead over LAFC and the Portland Timbers and sit in fourth place of the confernece.
Certainly there will be a measure of revenge in play. The LA Galaxy ended the Sounders playoff run last season and Seattle eliminated the Galaxy from the 2024 Leagues Cup.
During the MLS regular season last year, the LA Galaxy won once and tied with the Sounders. Sunday marks the first time that these two teams will meet this year.
Forward Dejan Joveljic and midfielder Riqui Puig are not in the lineup for the defending MLS Cup winners this time. Joveljic has since been traded to Sporting Kansas City, and Puig is still recovering from his torn ACL that he sustained in the MLS Western Conference Finals.
The LA Galaxy has one of the worst defenses in the league. They will have to contain the Sounders' top scorers in Albert Rusnák and Daniel Musovski, who have scored a combined 18 times this season.
Rusnak ranks second on the team with seven assists. Cristian Roldan has a team-high of eight assists for Seattle.
Sunday will also be the first MLS regular season match that Marco Reus will play against the Sounders. He joined the LA Galaxy in about this time last year from German football club Borussia Dortmund.
This game is available to stream on Apple TV and Apple TV+. It is also available on MLS Season Pass as well as the FS1 Station.
Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. (PT) and 9:00 p.m. (CT) on Sunday evening. The game will be played at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
This will be one of four home games for the LA Galaxy and their first of five games this month.
