Rangers will host Bulgarian side Ludogorets tomorrow night as they go in search of their first Europa League win of the season in the penultimate league phase match.
Although Danny Röhl’s arrival in October has sparked an upturn in form, they have only registered one point from a possible 18 so far this term and sit bottom of the 36-team league.
Meanwhile, Ludogorets have picked up seven points from their opening six matches, including narrow wins over Celta Vigo and Malmö FF, leaving them inside the play-offs on goal difference.
It’s not mathematically impossible for Rangers to qualify for the knockout rounds just yet, however they need nothing short of a miracle if they are to even come close.
In terms of their domestic football, both sides sit third in their respective divisions and in the midst of a title fight, with Rangers six points behind league leaders Hearts and Ludogorets seven off Levski Sofia in top spot.
However, the Bulgarian side haven’t played a competitive fixture since December 19th, due to their domestic winter break, while Rangers have featured in seven games during that time.
Petar Stanic, who signed for the club from TSC Backa Topola in the summer, is Ludogorets’ top scorer with six goals, including a brace against PAOK in a 3-3 draw last time out.
Rangers have really struggled for goals in the Europa League this season, only scoring three times from their six games up to this point, coming from summer signings Bojan Miovski and Djedi Gassama, as well as captain James Tavernier.
Tavernier made his 550th appearance for Rangers against Aberdeen little over a week ago, getting his name on the scoresheet from the spot in a comfortable 2-0 win at Pittodrie.
Ludogorets manager Per-Mathias Høgmo will be hoping to continue making a positive impression of The Eagles faithful as he looks to extend his unbeaten start in the job to nine games since taking over from Rui Tomás Faustino Pinto da Mota in November.
Thursday night will see these two sides face off for the first time ever, further adding to the intrigue of this clash at Ibrox.
The match will kick-off at 8pm UK time in front of a rocking Ibrox crowd as Rangers look to salvage their European campaign.
