VCF Mestalla travel to England this afternoon to face Crystal Palace FC on Tuesday (8:00 p.m.) in Matchday 3 of the Premier League International Cup, an U21 competition organised by the Premier League that features 16 English teams and 16 clubs from countries such as Germany, France, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Croatia and Spain.

The reserve side will look for a victory in England to build on their win in the previous match against Leicester City (1-3) and keep their chances alive of advancing past the group stage and qualifying for the knockout rounds.

“We change competition and travel to England to play against a strong Crystal Palace FC side,” said head coach Miguel Ángel Angulo.

“We go there with the obligation to get three points because we know we need nine points to have a chance of qualifying. Let’s see how the lads recover from Sunday’s effort — it’s also a good match to give opportunities to players who haven’t had as many minutes so far to show what they can do,” he added.

The team’s aim is also to continue growing and gain confidence for the domestic competition, where VCF Mestalla have gone three matches unbeaten but need to start converting their many chances into goals to climb away from the lower part of the table.

The reserve team will also have one more fixture to complete the group stage — against West Bromwich Albion FC in December — with the top two teams in each group advancing to the knockout phase.
