Eintracht are aiming to continue their good recent home form when they welcome fourth-placed Leipzig to Deutsche Bank Park in Matchday 30’s primetime clash on Saturday evening.
The backdrop
Both teams collected three points on the last matchday, with Eintracht winning 2-1 at VfL Wolfsburg and Leipzig edging out Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-0 at home. “At the end of the day I don’t really care, the main thing is winning the games,” David Raum told DAZN afterwards. The Leipzig captain was expressing what all Bundesliga teams want with five matchdays left of the season: points at any cost.
“We have to win games, that’s our aim,” stated Eintracht board member for sport Markus Krösche. “Of course, we always have a certain expectation level in terms of how we want to play football. In the first half [against Wolfsburg], for example, it was really good. Now we need to try to manage to do that over 90 minutes, and win as many games as possible between now and the end of the season. Then we’ll see where we end up.”
European ambitions
The Eagles sit seventh in the table with 42 points ahead of the meeting with Leipzig, who are fourth on 56 points. Across the last matches, Frankfurt have registered three wins, two draws and one defeat, while Leipzig travel to Deutsche Bank Park on the back of three straight victories. Albert Riera’s side will be looking to put a stop to that on Saturday when the whistle blows at 18:30 CEST.
They have good memories of the last home encounter with Leipzig: in the 2024/25 campaign, the Eagles triumphed 4-0 thanks to a brace from Ansgar Knauff and goals from Robin Koch and Hugo Ekitiké. It was a very different story in the reverse fixture in Saxony this season, though, where Leipzig won 6-0.
Club record on the horizon
There are plenty of candidates who could dent the visitors’ Champions League aspirations this time. Not least Arnaud Kalimuendo, who is fourth in the Bundesliga scoring chart for the second half of the season after netting his sixth goal against Wolfsburg. Oscar Højlund opened the scoring in that game, becoming the 18thdifferent player to find the net for the Eagles in the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign. A 19th different scorer would be a new club record, as well as the most in the German top flight this season. Aurèle Amenda, Mario Götze or Ellyes Skhiri would be the most likely candidates.
Solid Leipzig
Whoever wants to get on the scoresheet will have to overcome the third-best defence in the Bundesliga, which has conceded just 36 goals. “It will certainly be a big challenge, Leipzig are playing great football this season,” said Jonathan Burkardt, adding a “but”: “They’re coming here to Frankfurt, where we want to dominate.” The first half on Saturday should be the benchmark. “You saw how dominant we can be. We were extremely active, created a lot of chances and played some great stuff going forward.”
