Preview: West Ham in search of first league win as they welcome in-form Wolves | OneFootball

West Ham welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the London Stadium on Tuesday night in what is a must-win game for the Hammers and Nuno Espírito Santo.

Both sides have started their league campaigns quite differently. West Ham will be looking for their first win of the season after difficult starts with two draws and one loss.

As for the visitors, they sit second in the table, with two convincing wins and a 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers on opening day.

Following Saturday’s draw against Watford, West Ham have continued to strengthen their squad and appear keen to add further reinforcements. Viking FK winger Edvin Austbø has become the Hammers’ latest arrival, while the East London club are reportedly in talks with Nottingham Forest over central defender Morato.

Wolves are seemingly in the market for a left-back, as it has been reported that David Møller Wolfe is set to join Hamburg on loan with an option to buy. Manchester United left-back Harry Amass is seen as a possible target, as is Hull City’s Ryan Giles, but a deal for him seems difficult now that the Tigers are in the Premier League.

The last meeting between these two sides came earlier this year when both teams were in the Premier League, with West Ham running out 4-0 winners thanks to a brace from Konstantinos Mavropanos and a goal from Taty Castellanos.

Ahead of Tuesday’s game, West Ham boss Nuno spoke to the press and highlighted how the Championship has changed since he was last in the league.

“It has improved a lot in terms of quality. The squads are more complete, more quality, more talented players. It’s not only about this ball in the channel no more, but it’s also playing better, so very difficult on us because we are always a team to beat.”

Nuno is expected to have more players available for Tuesday night’s game, with forward Pablo back from injury, Mavropanos could feature after missing Saturday’s game through injury, and Austbø could be in line to make his debut, subject to international clearance and UK visa approval.

As for Wolves coach César Peixoto, he’ll have the same group of players to choose from as the one that comfortably beat Stoke City 4-1 on Saturday. Kieran Trippier, Yerson Mosquera, Rafiki Saïd, and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde all remain out.

Wolves winger Mateus Mane stated that they’ll be looking for another win on Tuesday in the capital.

“We won on Saturday, but on Sunday we started working for Tuesday’s game against West Ham. It’s another game, but away from home, the fans will go down and support us, and hopefully we’ll get another win.”
