PRIMAVERA BACK TO WINNING WAYS: 1-2 IN GENOA

A deserved victory at the end of a match played with character, organisation and personality. After three games without a win, the Primavera returned to winning ways in their away match in Genoa against Genoa CFC: the final score was 2-1 to the Rossoneri, thanks to goals from Perera just before half-time and Domniței midway through the second half. In stoppage time, Galvani pulled one back, but it was too late to reopen the game. In the starting lineup chosen by coach Renna, there were official debuts for El Hadji Malick Cissé and Yahya Idrissi, both signed during the recent winter transfer window.

After the defeats against Hellas Verona and SS Lazio, and before that the hard-fought comeback in the Derby draw against Inter, a positive result was needed for our boys, who did well to manage the numerical advantage without haste or anxiety. The team calmly controlled the game, exploiting the spaces left by Genoa CFC: the win takes us to 34 points in the standings, still in mid-table and just a few points away from the playoff spots. The next match will be at home against SSC Napoli, on Saturday at 11:00.

MATCH REPORT The start of the match was very lively, with little space and a lot of intensity in the middle of the pitch. The Rossoneri tried on two occasions, first with Pandolfi from distance and then with Mancioppi, who in the 12th minute created space for a shot and struck left-footed across goal, but it was central for Baccelli. A key moment came around the half-hour mark, when Genoa midfielder Carbone received a straight red card for excessive protests. The hosts were reduced to ten men and the Rossoneri took control, finding the goal in the 44th minute at the end of sustained attacking pressure: Mancioppi made a forward run, beat Baccelli off his line and set up Perera, who scored with his left foot through a crowd of players. The second half followed the same script as the end of the first, with possession mainly in the Rossoneri's control and Genoa looking for a moment or a chance. It arrived, but in favour of the Rossoneri: substitute Domniței, who came on for debutant Idrissi, received the ball from about 25 metres out and fired a powerful and precise right-footed shot into the corner. The Rossoneri doubled their lead and the match was essentially sealed, with Renna’s side trying to see it out without taking risks. In the 94th minute Genoa pulled one back with a header from Galvano, but it came too late to put the result in doubt: we won!

STATEMENTS Coach Renna at the end of the match: "We played well in this match, trying to impose our style of play; it wasn’t easy to win away at Genoa. Well done to Cissé and Idrissi on their debuts, it wasn’t easy after so few training sessions. The boys were outstanding; we were coming off two weeks in which we hadn’t picked up any points. They are growing in this respect too, in their reaction and attitude. Overcoming difficult moments is an important experience for the future".
