Valencian referee Juan Manuel Gordillo Escamilla has briefed CD Castellón on the main law changes for 2026/27, as he prepares for his first season in Segunda División. The club’s campaign is about to begin.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the official was born in València on 12 February 1993, after recent years in Primera Federación he is among the eight referees promoted to Segunda for 2026/27.

His record lists 26 matches in Segunda B and 39 in Primera Federación. He showed 212 yellow cards and 15 reds, an average of 5.44 cautions per game.

On 18 October 2015 he refereed Almazora v Castellón B in Regional Preferente, a 1-2 away win with early goals from Carlos López and Vicente. He issued four yellows, three to Almazora and one to the visitors.

In 2018/2019 he was assigned to Castellón youth fixtures, including Elche B v Castellón and Castellón v Villarreal B in Liga Nacional.

On 19 February 2023 he was fourth official at Castalia for Castellón v Atlético Baleares in Primera Federación. Albert Ávalos Martos refereed the match, which Castellón won 2-1 through Jesús De Miguel and Raúl Sánchez.

The IFAB updates aim to curb deliberate time-wasting. Substituted players now have 10 seconds to leave, otherwise the replacement must wait until the first stoppage after one minute of play, with injury or safety exceptions.

For throw-ins and goal kicks, a visible five-second countdown applies if the referee detects delay. Failure to restart in time hands the throw to the opposition or, for a goal kick, awards a corner.

Players who receive on-field medical attention, or whose injury stops play, must leave and remain off for one minute after the restart, save for stated exceptions such as fouls bringing a yellow or red. VAR can now review a clearly incorrect second yellow dismissal, assist with mistaken identity, and competitions may allow immediate correction of an obviously wrong corner without delaying the restart.

Gordillo enters professional refereeing in Segunda after three campaigns in Primera Federación. He knows Castalia, yet this step marks a different phase.
