Problem Revealed! The Zaragoza Transfer Has a Catch for Bayern | OneFootball

Bryan Zaragoza is set to leave FC Bayern. The record champions have been eager to offload the Spanish forward all summer long. A solution has finally emerged, and a move to Espanyol is imminent. 

However, there is a catch. As recently as yesterday, Monday, it was reported multiple times that the deal would be a loan with an obligation to buy for eight million euros.

But apparently, it’s not quite that simple. The attacking player, who never managed to establish himself at Bayern, is still expected to join Espanyol, but according to Fabrizio Romano, the terms are actually a little different.

Zaragoza’s Obligatory Purchase Tied to Conditions

Since RCD Espanyol has to be mindful of its finances, the deal is a loan with an option to buy. This option only becomes a mandatory purchase under certain conditions—namely, playing a certain number of games. This means less risk for Espanyol. For example, if Zaragoza suffers a serious injury or fails to make an impact and consequently plays very little, then the purchase will not be mandatory.

Meanwhile, FC Bayern will be hoping that Zaragoza can build on his past performances, which he has already demonstrated multiple times in La Liga. After all, he is actually a good addition for a team of Espanyol’s caliber. Especially if he’s given the space to showcase his offensive skills.

The Spaniard is fast, a strong dribbler, and an ideal counterattacking player. These are attributes that FC Bayern would have liked to see as well. There, Zaragoza was intended to be a wild card who could apply pressure from the bench and showcase his qualities, especially after taking the lead. But he made only seven appearances for the record champions, and his recent loan to Roma was anything but ideal.
