PSG achieve sextuple thanks to Intercontinental Cup win over Flamengo

Paris Saint-Germain began 2025 by winning a trophy in Qatar and they concluded it in the same way as they beat Flamengo on penalties to lift the Intercontinental Cup (1-1, 2-1 on penalties).

PSG took the lead thanks to a Khvicha Kvaratskhelia strike in the first-half but were then pegged back in the second when former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho slotted home from the spot.

PSG become third team to achieve sextuple

Les Parisiens had chances to win it in normal time, notably at the death through Marquinhos, but the match would go to penalties, where Matvey Safonov would be the hero. The Russian would spare the blushes of Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola, both of whom missed their penalties.

Safonov made four saves, from Saul Niguez, Pedro, Leo Pereira, and Luiz Araujo, to ensure victory for PSG and a sixth trophy in 2025. Having also won the Trophée des Champions, the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the UEFA Super Cup, Luis Enrique’s side became just the third in history to win six trophies in a calendar year, after Barcelona (2009) and Bayern Munich (2020).
