According to L'Équipe, PSG will play Flamengo in Qatar on Wednesday at 18:00 in the Intercontinental Cup final, becoming the first French club to do so.

Before PSG, only Marseille had earned the right to take part by winning the Champions League against AC Milan.

In 1993, Marseille, the only French club to have lifted the Champions League until PSG did so in the spring, were unable to compete due to suspension after the VA-OM corruption affair.

Their place went to AC Milan, finalists in 1992-1993, who lost 2-3 to São Paulo, with Jean-Pierre Papin on the scoresheet.

Still caught up in the same case, Marseille, then led by Bernard Tapie, also missed the UEFA Super Cup, which AC Milan won against Parma 1-0. Papin scored again for the Rossoneri.
