A Paris court issued the first sentences on Monday after unrest that followed Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory on Saturday.

According to Le Progres, police made 548 arrests in Paris and its suburbs, with 312 people in custody and 13 sent for immediate trial, including Amer K.

Amer K., just of age, was caught reselling fireworks mortars. He said he sold five to top up his income and denied any intent to harm police. Flares, a stun gun and two knives were found in his car, and he received a 10-month suspended term, in line with prosecutors’ requests.

Raphaël D., 22, was accused of riding a Vélib’ into officers at Place Saint-Michel while drunk, then striking one on the ankle. He denied the blows but regretted his words, saying he was not especially interested in the match. He was given one year, six months to be served.

Prosecutors had sought six months’ immediate custody with a committal order.

Hichem S., 19, an Algerian based in Barcelona, was convicted of snatching a necklace at Trocadéro. He received a 10-month suspended term and a 5-year ban, after prosecutors sought 8 months with committal and the defence said he came in a festive spirit.

The profiles only partly answer whether the troublemakers were PSG fans or opportunistic offenders, with little talk of football in court. All three left court free, though others, particularly those with prior convictions, may not. By late Monday afternoon, 68 people remained in custody in Paris.
