Rennes have made their case for why they don’t want to play away in the return game against PSG later in the season.

PSG’s opening game of the season had some unexpected drama when the Parisians were forced to play away at Rennes instead of at home, because of the way the summer heatwave had damaged the pitch at the Parc des Princes.

The logic would then be that the return fixture later at the season would also then be flipped. But in fact, Rennes want to keep that game at home too. They have submitted their case to the French sport committee to explain why.

Their reasons are that they had to organise this home game in a rush, and many season ticket holders who look forward to this game were not available. Playing the next game at PSG would mean their fans don’t get to watch the biggest game of the season at home.

It would also mean they are forced to play three times in the league away from home when that fixture comes around, something they feel is a major disadvantage.

They also deny that a heatwave is an “exceptional circumstance” in the context of the rules.

Desire Doue has been out of the PSG team in the last couple of games, but it doesn’t mean his standing with the team has been changed.

Achraf Hakimi getting injured is bad – the good news is that it sounds about as minor as it could be. We’re still not sure about him playing on Sunday, however.
