PSG clinch fifth straight title and tighten grip on Ligue 1 | OneFootball

PSG clinched a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 crown with a 2-0 win at Lens on Wednesday, deepening their domestic dominance and putting Lyon’s seven-in-a-row record within sight.

L'Équipe notes this run now feels like a dynasty, a sense of inevitability that eluded even the eras of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar or Kylian Mbappé. Since QSI arrived, slips by Montpellier in 2012, Monaco in 2017 and Lille in 2021 were exceptions rather than trends.

Despite Champions League ambitions, the league has remained a priority under president Nasser al-Khelaïfi. Over the past decade Paris have become record holders, 14 Ligue 1 titles, 16 Coupes de France, 14 Trophées des champions and nine Coupes de la Ligue. They are also France’s only club with two European trophies, the 2025 Champions League and the 1996 Cup Winners’ Cup, plus an Intercontinental Cup and a UEFA Super Cup.

Backed by a coherent plan and vast resources, and aided by a prolonged TV rights crisis hurting rivals, Paris have raised their floor. Lens stretched them this season but could not unseat them, and Luis Enrique’s methods look unlikely to loosen the grip.

Enrique is not infallible, Paris lost 1-0 to Paris FC in the Coupe de France last 32, yet his demands, rotation and fixed blueprint sustain levels across a long league campaign. Paris seldom dip, manage emotions and schedule, and kept momentum despite early turbulence including Ousmane Dembélé urging players to think of the club first.

This fifth straight crown takes Paris beyond the four in a row they shared from 2013-2016 with Saint-Étienne, 1967-1970, and Marseille, 1989-1992, halted by the VA-OM scandal. Lyon’s benchmark of seven, set between 2002 and 2008, is next. Reims in the 1950s, Nantes in the late 1970s and Bordeaux in the 1980s defined eras, but today the financial gulf and aligned approach under Enrique make their reign feel almost inevitable.
