The rumors linking Xavi Simons to Bayern Munich and Manchester United are growing louder now that UEFA Euro 2024 is over. This week, several reports surfaced describing the clubs keen on the 21-year-old.

As Bayern Munich and Manchester United vie for Simons, PSG fans might wonder why he’s making such a fuss about leaving the club. He’s been posting cryptic messages about his future, even sharing a post with an Uno card.

While speaking on the latest PSG Talking PodcastRobin Bairner, chief editor of Football Transfers, discussed whether he believes the Parisians have done something wrong to Simons that has caused him to go about handling the situation like this.

“He arrived as one of the hottest stars in Europe and as you say, he didn’t really get much of a chance,” Bairner said. “At that point he perhaps had justification to expect to have more of an opportunity to play at PSG. So then he left naturally, but then if he’s been betrayed at that point, why come back?

“He would have known, I think, that he would have been going out on loan last season; I’m sure that would have been agreed when the contract negotiations took place. And now PSG want him back.

“It doesn’t seem that he wants to be there, so I don’t really see how this can be attributed to an issue on PSG’s side, but as I say, there’s movements in the background that perhaps we don’t know about, who knows, there might have been a promise attached to another player, perhaps Mbappe, but purely speculating here.

“I honestly couldn’t say why PSG would have betrayed him at this point. It just really doesn’t make sense because he is a player who fits so perfectly into what PSG and Luis Enrique are looking for at the moment.”

Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported on Saturday that Bayern Munich have been exploring different options, like bringing Simons on board this summer or waiting until 2025. It will be interesting to see if the Bundesliga side does win the race for the Dutchman over the Red Devils.
