PSG fans banned from travelling to Marseille for Sunday’s Classique | OneFootball

According to L'Équipe, France’s Interior Ministry has banned Paris Saint-Germain supporters from travelling to Marseille on Sunday for the Classique. The Ligue 1 fixture is scheduled for 8.45pm on matchday five, and the order was published on Thursday.

The decree specifies that from midnight to midnight on Sunday 20 September, any individual or group travel by anyone identifying as a PSG supporter, or behaving as such, is prohibited between communes in Île-de-France and the city of Marseille.

This move follows a 9 September order by the delegated police prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône, which bars PSG fans on Sunday from accessing the Stade Vélodrome, and from parking or moving on public roads in the city centre and around the stadium.

To justify the travel ban, the Interior Ministry cites the frequently violent behaviour of Marseille supporters at home, including fights between rival fans and violence against police.

It also states that travelling PSG fans are very often a source of public order problems due to violent conduct. The order notes that relations between OM and PSG followers have long been marked by animosity, which has on several occasions led to serious clashes.
