PSG fine over gender equality index upheld on appeal | OneFootball

The Paris administrative court has upheld a 2.7 million euro fine against PSG for breaching France’s workplace gender equality index, covering periods before 2024.

According to AFP, the ruling dated 25 June confirmed a March 2024 decision by the Île-de-France labour inspectorate imposing a penalty equal to 0.5% of 2022 revenue, set at 2,728,468 euros. Canard Enchaîné reports that the court also validated the use of all club revenues, including professional player wages, as the calculation base for the indicator.

Inspectorate data showed PSG recorded insufficient scores on the index for three consecutive years before 2024, notably on the measure assessing the share of women among the club’s 10 highest earners. The club appealed, citing the specific nature of professional football.

PSG argued that men’s first-team salaries inevitably dominate the top pay bracket, which limits scope to influence that indicator regardless of staff HR policies. It added that sustained work has been undertaken and that it has complied with its obligations since 2023.

PSG has acknowledged the judgment and continues its efforts to strengthen professional equality.
