PSG-linked defensive star in talks to renew his contract at Barcelona – Report | OneFootball

There has not been much to smile about from a defensive perspective for Barcelona this season, but the improvement and emergence of Eric Garcia as a first-choice option has been a massive positive for Hansi Flick.

Eric has done an excellent job partnering with either Pau Cubarsi or Ronald Araujo at centre-back. He has also filled in at right-back in Jules Kounde’s absence and has even started ahead of him on occasion.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are in talks with Eric Garcia over a new deal. His contract at the Catalan club expires at the end of the season and, understandably, Flick would love him to stay.

On the other hand, there is interest from PSG. Luis Enrique has previously worked with the ex-Manchester City defender during his time as Spain’s national team manager and would love to reunite with him at the Parc des Princes.

Eric is versatile and can play as a central defender and right-back for the Catalan club. Achraf Hakimi recently suffered a serious injury against Bayern Munich, and PSG are not ruling out a winter move for the 24-year-old Spaniard.

However, considering how thin the Barcelona squad currently is, with all the injuries and the lack of central defensive options, there is no way Flick would consider letting Eric leave in January. Ideally, the club will want him to put pen to paper sooner rather than later.

It remains to be seen how things play out for Eric. He is a Catalan-bred defender, and staying at Barcelona seems the logical outcome. Only time will tell.
