Paris Saint-Germain made history as the first French club to win a world title, by claiming the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, after edging Flamengo on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Qatar’s Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG the lead in the first half, but former Chelsea and Arsenal Jorginho levelled from the spot after Marquinhos was penalised for a foul on Giorgian de Arrascaeta.

Both sides had chances in a tense second half, with Flamengo pushing for a winner and PSG threatening on the counter, including a late miss from Ousmane Dembélé.

In the shootout, goalkeeper Matvey Safonov stole the show, saving four penalties to seal a 2-1 on penalties.

The win completes a remarkable 2025 for PSG, giving them six trophies in the calendar year, including the Champions League, Ligue 1, French Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Trophée des Champions.
