Paris Saint-Germain are apparently planning to make an offer for Dayot Upamecano, and FC Bayern are taking this seriously.

The contract poker for Dayot Upamecano continues to come to a head. According to BILD, Bayern bosses are taking the interest of Paris Saint-Germain very seriously. The French top club is apparently planning a concrete offer for the centre-back – and has the financial means to outdo Munich’s rivals.

Particularly explosive: Upamecano is represented by advisor Moussa Sissoko, who has excellent connections to PSG and also looks after Ousmane Dembélé. This proximity to the club’s management in Paris increases the likelihood that the French club will get serious.

FC Bayern are prepared to make Upamecano an improved contract offer to prevent his imminent departure. The defender currently earns around €16 million gross per year including bonuses. His salary is set to rise further in the future – which would put him in the top earning category, just behind Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala.

Will PSG pay Upamecano a big handout?

Nevertheless, the outcome of the negotiations remains open. The main sticking point is the hand money demanded: while FC Bayern do not want to pay excessive sums or make improvements, PSG would be prepared to go to the pain threshold financially, according to information from BILD.

Munich are taking the situation extremely seriously, with sporting director Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund continuing to work on an extension and wanting to tie the player to the club in the long term. Under coach Vincent Kompany, Upamecano has developed into one of the most reliable central defenders in Europe and is regarded internally as indispensable.

At the same time, Bayern are preparing for possible scenarios if talks break down. According to the report, the club is in contact with alternative central defenders, including Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace) and Ibrahima Konaté (Liverpool FC). Both players fit the record champions‘ profile: young, capable of development and with international experience.

Munich are aware that PSG are not only a dangerous competitor financially, but also emotionally – a move to his native France would be particularly appealing for Upamecano.
